I’ve decided to do a post about details. Being a portrait photographer, my main focus when shooting a wedding is people, but boy do I love it when there are beautiful details to photograph too.

This wedding was a recent one I photographed in country Victoria that was styled by the awesome girls at The Style Co in Melbourne. These girls know their stuff (and are lovely to boot) and I highly recommend getting in touch with them if you are thinking about enlisting the help of a professional planner and/or stylist.

I do wish I could go back and enjoy this wedding again!

Caitlin and Steve

Oh! how I love a country wedding. Caitlin and Steve are city folk, but for their big day they chose the teeny tiny town of Buninyong because Caitlin grew up in nearby Ballarat. I’m finding it hard to find the words to describe their wonderful day – amazing? beautiful? surprising? ridiculously fun? Nup, it’s too hard. This is why I photograph the weddings.

I do have to say that Cait and Steve are so in love, they have the cutest dog ever, and Caitlin suprised Steve with a flashmob dance to a Beyonce song! She made a youtube video so all her friends and family could learn the moves. Oh and Caitlin is is the most serious DIY bride I’ve ever come across – I can’t list all the things she and her Mum made for the day because there’s too many! My favourites were the colourful arch at their ceremony, the personalised cufflinks, and the gorgeous bridesmaid and flowergirl dresses made by Caitlin’s talented mother.

So pop on a Beyonce track and enjoy these highlights of what has been one of my funnest weddings to shoot!

Gabrielle and Andrew

Gabs and Roo (they told me I can call them that) had their wedding at Stones of the Yarra Valley, a venue I had been wanting to shoot at for a while. It was just perfect, and filled with so much love and laughter, I get warm fuzzy flashbacks just looking through their photographs.

They enlisted the help of Georgeous to style the occasion, and Cecilia Fox is responsible for those amazing flowers (and herbs, and berries!). Gabrielle looked absolutely beautiful in her Gwendolynne dress, and no she didn’t hire models – those stunning girls accompanying her are bridesmaids and they wore Zimmerman dresses.

What I’m loving about shooting weddings is how, by the end of the night, I don’t feel like a vendor or employee, I feel like a guest. And Gabs and Roo’s families made me feel especially welcome. So thanks for having me there G+R – I wish we could do it again!

Melissa and Guy

Oh Boyd Baker House, I will never get sick of photographing you. Melissa and Guy clearly have excellent taste in venues, and everything else, it seems. I love love love the beautiful flower arrangements Wunderplant created for the day – they complemented the Australian bushland setting perfectly. And what can I say about Melissa’s stunning dress? Check out that lace – it’s perfection (I’m not a fashion writer, okay? But I know what I like). I am available for more Boyd Baker House weddings, people! I may just pitch a tent and live there forever.

Tania and Rob

Tania and Rob are university sweethearts. They met in their 3rd year genetics class (yes that’s right, they’re extremely good looking AND smart). Their wedding was held at the sweetest little venue that I never knew existed, right in the middle of our beautiful Botanic Gardens, called Gardens House. We were surrounded by bright, colourful flowers thanks to the girls at Pash Flowers and the beautiful Gardens themselves. It felt so private and tucked away from everything and I hope I can shoot there again soon!

Hannah and Mark

Hannah and Mark were married last year but as you may have guessed, I’m a little slow with blogging now that the summer wedding season has taken over my life! So over the next week or two I will attempt to post lots of recent weddings for your enjoyment.

The Melbourne weather has been cruel to us wedding photographers lately, sending rain our way almost every Saturday. But this didn’t stop Han and Mark from getting out there and having a brilliant time in their pre-ceremony shoot. Their ceremony was held in the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens (no rain until it finished!), and they had their reception at Quat Quatta. Hannah looked gorgeous in her Karen Willis Holmes dress and I think you’ll all agree Mark looked pretty dapper himself. It was a beautiful day filled with lots of laughs, followed by a New York honeyoon which I was supremely envious of! Hmm maybe I should start offering honeymoon photography packages too?

Happy birthday Phoebe

I don’t really write about my personal life here but I’ve been meaning to pop a picture up of my little girl Phoebe. She turned 1 last month and she’s pretty much the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Here she is on day 1, and on her 1st birthday. I’m still amazed that someone can grow and change so much in just 12 months! And let’s be honest – she’s the cutest baby you’ve ever seen, right?

Oh boy! Where do I start with this one? I am so excited to share these images with you maybe I will just not waffle on like I usually do. Basically Karen and Stephen got married on a super rainy Melbourne day. Karen wore an amazing dress and I thanked the wedding gods for sending her to me – it’s pretty much a photographer’s dream wedding!
